Man shot in legs by masked man in Cookstown

A 35-year-old man is in a stable condition in hospital after being shot in both legs in Cookstown.

Two men wearing balaclavas and camouflage jackets entered a house in Drumcree at about 5.40pm on Sunday.

The intruders, one of whom was armed with a handgun, threatened the occupants before shooting the man once in the leg.

A woman in her 30s and another man, also in his 30s, were not injured.

Police Service of Northern Ireland Detective Inspector Will Tate said: "Incredibly, this incident occurred in a busy residential area during daylight hours.

"We believe those responsible may well have been spotted by local people both as they approached the property and as they made their escape from the area on foot."

Anyone with information is asked to call 101.
