Man shot in the legs after he is dragged from house

By Laura Abernethy

A man has been dragged from his home and shot in the legs.

A number of armed men forced their way into a house in the Meadowbrook area of Craigavon shortly after 11pm on Wednesday evening.

The 26-year-old man was then taken from the property and shot in each leg.

He was taken to hospital to have his injuries treated a short time later.

The attack was condemned by local politicians.

Ulster Unionist Party councillor Colin McCusker, who was at a cross-community carol service at the time, called for those responsible to be rooted out.

He said: "It is terrible to think, that while we were gathered there as a united community, a small gang were planning to carry out this horrific attack.

"Guns have no place in our society, and the police need to be given all the resources they require to root out the individuals behind this attack.

"This is a very small minority who rule communities with fear, and it is not reflective of the wider Craigavon area."
