Man stabbed and hit with hammer in north Belfast attack


The man was attacked in the New Lodge area of the city.

A man was stabbed and hit with a hammer during an attack by masked men in north Belfast on Saturday.

The 26-year-old was on Victoria Parade in the New Lodge area of the city when the three masked men assaulted him shortly before midnight.

The attackers stabbed him in the back and hit him on the head with a hammer, the victim was treated in hospital for injuries which are not life threatening.

Sinn Féin councillor JJ Magee condemned the assault, he said: “This was a particulary vicious attack on a local man at Victoria Parade.

“The men hit the victim on the head with a hammer and stabbed him in the back. This could have ended in a fatality.''

He added: “I condemn those who carried out this attack. Anyone with any information on the dangerous criminals who did this should immediately contact the police.''

“These people need to be taken off our streets.”
