Man stabbed in stomach during Belfast attack

A 23-year-old man is in hospital after being stabbed in the stomach in an attack in Belfast.

It happened in the Antrim Road area in the early hours of Friday morning.

Police received a report shortly after midnight that a man had been stabbed in his abdomen.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A 22-year-old woman, who was with the victim, also sustained a small cut to her face.

Sinn Féin councillor JJ Magee condemned the stabbing.

The north Belfast councillor said: “Another young man was violently attacked in north Belfast in the early hours of this morning.

“These brutal attacks have a severely damaging impact on our entire city and must stop immediately.

“Anyone with information about this stabbing should bring it forward to the police immediately.”

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact detectives at Musgrave Criminal Investigation Division on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 5 of 09/02/18.
