Man stabbed in the head in west Belfast

A man has been stabbed in the head during an incident at a property in the Lagmore Avenue area of west Belfast.

Police were called to the scene after reports that a knife wielding attacker had stabbed a man and made off towards a children's play park, before continuing into adjoining fields.

A spokesperson for the Ambulance Service said that they were called out just after 8.30pm.

Three ambulances attended the scene along with an A and E crew.

Two people were treated for stab wounds to the head and back and later taken to Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment.

A police helicopter and dog unit are continuing to carry out a search in the area to try and apprehend the attacker.

It is understood that a number of residents, some of whom were children, witnessed the attack.
