Man suffers serious 'traumatic head injury' after punch knocks him unconscious in Belfast

A man has suffered a serious head injury after he was punched unconscious in Belfast.

The 28-year-old victim was attacked in the Dunbar Link area of the city centre last month.

Details of the attack in July 26 have just emerged.

The victim suffered a "traumatic head injury" after he was punched once by a unknown man at around 2.30am.

He then fell to the ground before hitting his head.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

In recent weeks the PSNI have been trying to increase the public's awareness of the danger of so-called 'one punch' attacks over the last few years.

According to police some 20 people have died as a result of such attacks, with many more seriously injured.

The majority of incidents are fuelled by alcohol, police said.
