Man sustains puncture wounds in early-morning east Belfast assault

A man has sustained what police have described as puncture wounds in an early-morning assault in east Belfast.

The incident happened at an apartment near to the Skainos Centre on the Newtownards Road.

Police were called out to the incident at around 1.50pm on Sunday morning.

Arriving at the property officers found a man in his 30s with puncture wounds to his shoulder.

He has been taken to hospital for treatment, and his injuries are not thought to be serious.

A 35-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. She is in custody and helping police with their inquries.

Sergeant Scott Williamson said: “We would appeal to anyone who has information about this incident that could be useful to our investigation, to get in touch with police at Strandtown on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 123 of 7/1/18.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
