Man targets elderly woman in Belfast distraction burglary after asking her for £1

An elderly woman has been targeted in a distraction type burglary after a man made his way into her Belfast home after asking her for £1.

It happened in the Beechill Road area of Belfast on Sunday afternoon.

It was reported that at around 2pm an unknown man called at the home of an elderly lady and asked her for £1.

The man followed the lady into her home and snatched her handbag before making off.

The man was challenged by neighbours in the area of Glenhugh Park where he dropped the handbag and made off.

He is described as being approximately 6ft 2inches tall and of slim build. He was wearing a light coloured t-shirt and baseball cap. The lady was not injured but left shaken by her ordeal.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact them at Lisburn on 101, quoting reference 628 of 23/4/17.
