Man threatened partner with cleaver, court told
A man allegedly armed himself with a meat cleaver and threatened to kill his partner in front of her two-year-old son, a court has heard.
Ryan Taylor is also accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm on the woman and assaulting the child during a row in Belfast last Friday.
The 26-year-old, of Great Victoria Street in the city, strenuously denies all alleged offences.
Belfast Magistrate’s Court heard he claims to have kept the meat cleaver because he likes to cook.
Taylor was remanded in custody after being refused bail because to the risk of any further offences. He faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm, common assault, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, namely murder, and two counts of making threats to kill.
Defence solicitor Conor Houston said his client alleges he was attacked and injured when a fight broke out.
Taylor accepted the couple later argued, but denies making threats or any violence.
The accused was remanded in custody to appear again by video-link on September 17.
