A man in his twenties has been treated for head injuries after being assaulted with an iron bar during a burglary in Limavady.

The victim's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The attack happened on Benevenagh Road at around 6.30pm on Sunday when a number of people entered a house in the area.

"It was reported windows had also been damaged at two properties in the area during the incident. Police are investigating a link between both the assault and the incidents of criminal damage," said Detective Sergeant Rachel Gardiner.

"Two men aged 50 years old and 21 years old were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and aggravated burglary. Both men are currently assisting police with their enquiries," she said.

"Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incidents or saw anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 1772 4/8/19. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
