Man victim of distraction burglary

A man in his 70s has been targeted in a distraction burglary at his home in south Belfast.

The elderly victim answered his door at around 4.50pm to a man wearing a high visibility coat claiming he needed to read the meter.

Four other males pushed into the house in the Posnett Court area and threatened the man before making off with a sum of money.

Police have appealed for witnesses who may have seen the five men, who made off towards the Ormeau Road in a blue car.

Anna Lo, Alliance MLA for south Belfast, condemned the attack and warned other residents to be wary of bogus callers.

"This must have been a very distressing incident for this elderly man. Nobody should ever have to deal with something like this," said Ms Lo.

"This was a despicable crime carried out by thugs who no regard for the wellbeing of others."
