Man who escaped police custody and scaled courthouse fences is arrested
A man who escaped police custody and managed to scale two walls ahead of his court appearance has been arrested.
The 22-year-old managed to escape as police transported him to Londonderry courthouse last Wednesday.
The man wasn't handcuffed and when he got out of the police car in a confined area in the courthouse grounds, he immediately made a run for it.
Scaling two large fences in the process, he was last seen sprinting off down Bishops Street with police only able to watch on helplessly.
This morning, police confirmed the man was arrested.
Following the incident, the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service said a review has been commissioned of security arrangements.
"Although NICTS procedures were followed, the NICTS chief executive has commissioned a review of security arrangements at Londonderry/Derry courthouse," it said in a statement.
