A Newtownabbey man has admitted smuggling six different drugs into a prison.

Ryan Best (24) yesterday pleaded guilty to six counts of conveying list A articles into HMP Magilligan at his brief arraignment at Antrim Crown Court.

However, he denied four further counts accusing him of simple possession of the class A, B and C drugs.

Best, from Fernagh Court, confessed that he "brought, threw or otherwise conveyed" class A cocaine, class B drugs cannabis resin and herbal cannabis, class C drug Xanax and steroids methandienone and oxymetholone into the prison on March 28 last year.

Following the arraignment, defence counsel Jon-Paul Shields told the court he was "content to fix a trial date" but suggested the case be reviewed ahead of any potential trial, adding the prospective hearing would only take a day to deal with.

Freeing Best on continuing bail, Judge Melody McReynolds said she would review the case on October 26.
