Man wielding a hammer robs west Belfast business

A man with a hammer robbed a business and threatened staff at a commercial premises in Belfast on Saturday night.

Police received reports that a male had entered the premises in the Springfield Road area of the city and had threatened staff with what is believed to have been a hammer.

Detective Constable Sands said: "The suspect, who wore a dark jacket and a dark hat, demanded money. He subsequently fled with a sum of cash. No one was injured in the incident.

“We’re appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and noticed any suspicious activity, or who knows anything about the incident to contact detectives at Musgrave Criminal Investigation Branch on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1345 23/09/17."
