Manchester United fan shoplifts from Tesco... gets caught because his name is printed on the back of his shirt

By Claire Cromie

A Manchester United fan was caught shoplifting from a Northern Ireland Tesco store - because he had his name printed on the back of his football shirt.

Paul Robert Benson (24), of Glenavon Crescent in Lurgan, stole £104.54 worth of groceries from a Tesco supermarket.

The Lurgan Mail reported that he abandoned his haul in the car park and made off when he realised he had been spotted by staff.

They noticed he was wearing a Man United shirt with "Benson 22" on the back, and identified him on CCTV footage.

When interviewed by police he made a full and frank admission.
