Man's body recovered from River Erne

By Gerry McLaughlin

The body of a Fermanagh man was taken from the River Erne yesterday afternoon.

The man, named locally as Kieran Doherty, had been fishing near the Carlton Hotel in Belleek before he entered the water.

The dead man's jacket had been discovered earlier, prompting an air and ground search of the river.

The Fire and Rescue Service, Ambulance Service and the PSNI carried out a search in conjunction with a helicopter rescue service from Sligo.

The Belleek man, who was in his early 30s, was taken from the river shortly after 5pm yesterday by rescue services. His remains were taken to hospital for a post mortem examination.
