Man's fingerprints on stolen TV
Fingerprint evidence allegedly links a man to a midnight break-in at the home of an “isolated” 96-year-old woman, the High Court has heard.
Kyle Nesbitt (21), is charged with burglary and theft of a television stolen from the elderly victim's house in south Belfast.
The accused, of Malone Road in the city, was refused bail.
A prosecution lawyer said the woman heard a bang and believed someone was inside her home late on September 6.
A flat-screen television was stolen during the raid, with her handbag also reported missing.
Police later went to another address where a taxi driver had dropped off two men, one of whom had been carrying a television, the court heard.
The serial number on a set found there was said to be the same as that of the stolen TV.
Fingerprints found on it matched those of Nesbitt, according to the prosecution.
A defence barrister acknowledged it was a “distasteful” case but argued the television was not located at Nesbitt's home.
But Lord Justice Coghlin pointed to Nesbitt's lack of explanation.
He said: “It is a hopeless application and I refuse bail.”
