Marathon effort helps raise £20,000
A remarkable runner has raised more than £20,000 by finishing five marathons for a children's cancer charity.
Inspired by his wife Sinead's cancer battle, Micheal Dillon took part in the Belfast, Dublin, London, Newry City and Mourne Way marathons starting last October and then finally a 40-mile run in June this year.
The money raised by the Newry man for the Cancer Fund for Children will help Daisy Lodge, a short break facility for families affected by cancer.
Micheal said: "During my runs when I felt like I wanted to stop I just thought of Sinead and all those cancer battlers who never or would not give up. Radiotherapy, chemotherapy, tiredness, exhaustion ... they don't have a choice to give up so I wasn't going to either."
