The fourth March of Life to remember the Holocaust and take a stand against anti-Semitism took place yesterday in Belfast.

Members of the Jewish and Christian communities joined together to walk to City Hall from the Jaffe Fountain, erected by Otto Jaffe, Belfast's only Jewish Lord Mayor, in memory of his father Daniel Joseph Jaffe, who funded the building of Belfast's first synagogue.

During the walk from the fountain at Victoria Square, the flags of many nations were carried, representing the international aspect of the event.

March co-ordinator Mike McNally said: "The concept behind this event is to stand shoulder to shoulder with our Jewish community to commemorate the Shoah, (Holocaust), remembering those who perished and to pay tribute to the survivors, re-telling their stories for generations to come.

"We want to say 'Never Again' to this form of hatred and make a public declaration against modern day anti-Semitism, racism, discrimination and xenophobia."
