Masked armed gang attack and rob couple in Co Down

A masked armed gang of five men have tied up and assaulted a man during a raid in Co Down.

The burglary happened in the Castlevennon Road area of Banbridge on Sunday night.

Five masked men - one armed with a gun - burst into a house shortly after 10pm.

A man and woman inside at the time were tied up during the raid.

The man was also attacked with the firearm.

A sum of cash was taken during the robbery.

The occupants were then taken to hospital.

The latest raid comes after the homes of two elderly couples were targeted within minutes of each other on Monday night.

Five men, one armed with a screwdriver, forced their way into the property of 76-year-old Patsy Boyle and his wife Bridget (80) in Ballynahinch, Co Down, claiming to be from the LVF.

Meanwhile, police revealed that a similar robbery was carried out on the same evening less than nine miles away.

Again, a masked gang of five entered the home of a 76-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man in the Drumgooland Road area of Castlewellan.
