By Nevin Farrell

Masked men – one armed with a suspected firearm – attacked two men in Dundonald on the outskirts of Belfast.

The injured men were taken to hospital, one with a suspected broken leg after being struck by a hammer.

The other man was hit on the head with the firearm.

Detectives in Castlereagh are appealing for information after the assaults in residential premises at the Millars Court, early on Saturday.

Around 12.10am it was reported that two masked men approached the house and threatened a female resident at the door. One man threatened the woman.

The PSNI said the two men then assaulted a 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old man at the premises.

The 22-year-old was struck by a hammer and suffered a suspected broken leg. The 18-year-old is understood to have been struck on the head by the suspected firearm.

Both men were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries which were not believed to be serious, police added.
