Masked Belfast gang attacks man with knife and bat

A 23-year-old man is being treated in hospital following an assault by a gang in Belfast.

It happened in the Roden Street area on Wednesday night. Police said at around 11.30pm as the victim was walking along the street towards Roden Pass with two other people, a black BMW pulled up beside them.

Five male occupants of the car got out and two of them assaulted the man with what is believed to be a knife and a bat.

All of the men in the vehicle were wearing dark clothing and black masks.

The man and woman who were with the man who was attacked were not assaulted during the incident. But they were left very badly shaken.Inspector McCullough said: “The man sustained an injury to the back of his head and his shoulder. He was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this assault or the black BMW to contact Police at Woodbourne PSNI Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1519 03/05/16. Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
