Masked gunmen shoot man in west Belfast

A man was shot in the legs and arms in west Belfast on Tuesday night.

Masked gunmen entered a house in Hawthorne Street at around 9.15pm and shot the man a number of times.

West Belfast Councillor Colin Keenan arrived at the scene within minutes and administered first aid to to the victim.

“It was clear the man had been shot a number of times and was losing a significant amount of blood so I administered first aid until paramedics arrived in an ambulance," said the SDLP man.

“I want to condemn these vicious thugs in the strongest possible terms. They came into this community, shot a man and left him for dead while we had to look into his eyes and reassure him that he’d survive.

“There is no place in our community or our society for this kind of brutal attack. I would appeal to anyone who may have any information to report it to the police as soon as possible.”

The PSNI is appealing for information.
