Masked men in Newtownabbey van robbery bid

Detectives in Newtownabbey are appealing for information after two masked men, one armed with a knife, attempted to rob a cash-in-transit van. The incident happened outside a business in the Mallusk Road area of Glengormley at around 10am yesterday.

Police said it was reported that two males, one carrying a knife, approached a security guard and attempted to steal a cash box.

"The guard locked himself in the van and the two males made off empty-handed", a spokesman said. "They made off in a silver-coloured car which was being driven by another male. The security guard was not injured in the incident."

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact CID in Newtownabbey PSNI station on the non-emergency number 101.
