Masked men tie up woman in house and set fire during burglary

A Co Down woman has escaped injury after being tied up by masked men in a house where a fire had been started.

The incident happened during a burglary of a house on the School Road outside of the village of Clough shortly after 1pm on Monday.

It was reported two masked men entered a house in the area.

A woman in her 40s was in the house at the time and was tied up as the intruders made off with an iPad and a Mac Book.

During the incident a fire was started in an upstairs room.

Two members of the public were passing and came to the aid of the woman, and ensured she was not injured by in the ordeal.

In a statement, police said the woman had been left shaken.

Police and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident, and significant damage was caused to the house by the fire.

Detective Sergeant Johnston is appealing to anyone who witnessed any suspicious vehicles or persons in the area this afternoon or anyone with any information about the incident to contact Detectives at Ardmore Police Station on 101, quoting references 952 19/02/18.
