Masterclass offered to musicians

Northern Ireland's music artists are to receive a masterclass in breaking into international markets.

A programme organised by economic development agency Invest NI will help fledgling acts attend music industry events such as South by Southwest in the US.

It will also offer practical advice and mentoring from established industry figures and there will be a series of events this autumn to develop skills.

A spokesman for the Fast Forward skills programme said: "Creating a strong identifiable brand is an essential part of any business strategy and it is particularly relevant and important in the highly competitive music marketplace."

Sessions include one on the Belfast campus of the University of Ulster next month.

"This event is all about the development of music brands and identities and will concentrate on the design and establishment of music business and artist-led brands and look closely at how to make your brand make money," he said.

The Arts Council and Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure helped fund the venture.
