Matthew Goddard murder: Police are given extra time to question two men

By David Young

Detectives investigating the murder of a man in east Belfast on Christmas Eve have been granted extra time by a court to question two men.

The men, aged 29 and 35, were arrested on Tuesday.

Yesterday a court gave officers more time to quiz the pair.

Matthew Goddard was found dead in his house in Chobham Street shortly before 10pm on Christmas Eve.

Witnesses reported last seeing him alive at 6pm on the previous day.

The pair are still being questioned about what police have described as a "sustained and brutal attack".

Officers investigating the killing said the victim had been beaten with his electric guitar and other objects.

Detectives have renewed their appeal for information, asking anyone who saw suspicious activity in the Beersbridge Road or Ravenscroft Avenue area between 11pm and midnight on Tuesday, December 23 to contact them.
