Matthew Goddard murder: police given more time to question pair

Two men held over murder of man believed to have been battered with a guitar

Police investigating the murder of an east Belfast man beaten with a guitar have been allowed extra time to question two men.

Detectives from Serious Crime Branch are interviewing a 29-year-old and a 35-year-old in connection about the murder of Matthew Goddard whose body was discovered on Christmas Eve.

The two men were arrested yesterday as part of the on-going police investigation.

No-one has yet been charged with the murder.

Three people  -  a woman aged 24, a man of 21, and a 17-year-old male - previously arrested in connection with the brutal Christmas have all been released unconditionally as was  12-year-old boy.

Mathew Goddard (41) was found dead in his house in Chobham Street at about 9.40pm on Christmas Eve.

The PSNI said he was killed in an attack at his home, and that he had been beaten with an electric guitar.
