Mayor picks charity targets

Mayor of North Down, Councillor John Montgomery, has launched ‘The Mayor’s Charities’ an initiative to raise much-needed funds and promote the work of Help for Heroes and the Ulster Cancer Foundation.

Mr Montgomery said he was “very excited” about the prospect of raising funds for the charities. “Selecting them has been a most difficult decision as there are so many very worthy charitable organisations to choose from. My choices of Help for Heroes and the Ulster Cancer Foundation are, perhaps, complementary, in that whether fighting as heroes against cancer or against an enemy in a far off land the courage needed is the same."

Maeve Fox, from the Ulster Cancer Foundation, commented: “This is our 40th anniversary year, which makes it an even more special time to be associated with the mayor’s charities.”

Neal Somerville from Help for Heroes said: “All those who support Help for Heroes are passionate about what they do. The work is needed, it is appreciated and we are making a real difference to the lives of some extraordinary young men and women.”
