Michaela Harte McAreavey murder: More suspects to be quizzed

Detectives in Mauritius are expected to question more people over the weekend as they continue their investigation into the murder of Michaela McAreavey.

Five people have been held in connection with her killing so far.

Yesterday Seenarain Mungoo, a security worker at the hotel where Michaela and her husband John were staying, was remanded in custody after being provisionally charged with conspiracy.

Sources on the island said another person was being questioned yesterday, and a sixth arrest was said to be imminent.

It is understood one of those provisionally charged — security worker Dassen Narayanen — was questioned for a second time yesterday.

Newlywed Michaela was found strangled in her hotel room at Legends Hotel, where she had been on honeymoon with her husband John.

The 27-year-old teacher was the daughter of Tyrone GAA manager Mickey Harte.

Two men who were provisionally charged with murder, and another charged with conspiracy to murder, were remanded back into custody earlier this week.

A fourth man has also been charged with conspiring to commit a crime.

Yesterday the fifth suspect — 39-year-old Mungoo from Petit-Raffray — was remanded in custody after a brief appearance at the District Court of Mapou.

The case against Mungoo is understood to centre on the key card used to enter the McAreaveys’ room.

Detectives suspect Mungoo may have fabricated a fake card which replaced the stolen master key used by the killers.

Police have said he had the facilities to make the forgery.

Mungoo’s detention brings to five the number of people being held over Michaela’s murder.

Room attendant Avinash Treebhoowoon (29) and floor supervisor Sandip Moneea (41) are provisionally charged with murder, and room attendant Raj Theekoy (33) with conspiracy to murder.

The fourth suspect, Narayanen (26), has been charged with conspiracy.

Meanwhile, the Tyrone GAA team is due to play for the first time since the tragedy tomorrow.

Mickey Harte is expected to attend the Dr McKenna Cup clash against Donegal at Healy Park.
