Mickeybo mum 'was provoked' into hitting son's murderer

By Paul Higgins

The grieving mum of murdered teenager Michael 'Mickeybo' McIlveen slapped his killer in the face after she heard him exclaim "f*** her son", a court has heard.

Antrim Magistrates Court also heard that Gina McIlveen (46) tried to hit Mervyn Moon again on Antrim's Main Street, but that the killer ran off.

Mother-of-four McIlveen, from Glendun Drive in Ballymena, pleaded guilty to common assault on August 14 last year. She was handed a conditional discharge for three months.

The court heard that McIlveen heard Moon "laughing on his mobile phone" and said: "F*** her son, f*** her son."

McIlveen slapped him with her right hand, but her lawyer submitted that "this could not have been a more extreme example of provocation".
