The First and Deputy First Ministers have passed on their congratulations to Samantha Gamble and Frankie Byrne as they tie the knot today.
Samantha (53), who is fighting terminal cancer, and her partner Frankie (54) from Loughbrickland were overjoyed when it was announced last Thursday that marriage ceremonies for the terminally ill would be allowed to go ahead.
Speaking at Monday's Covid-19 daily briefing, Deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill said the lifting of the restrictions shows that politicians "do have hearts".
Ahead of the couple's big day today, which will be taking place in their back garden with just six people present because of social distancing restrictions, First Minister Arlene Foster and Ms O'Neill sent their congratulations.
Mrs Foster said: "I send my best wishes to Samantha and Frankie on their special day. We have all been touched by their story of commitment and love. I hope the sun will shine brightly on their garden celebrations."
Ms O'Neill added: "My warmest congratulations to Samantha and Frankie on their wedding day. No one could fail to be moved by their circumstances and I hope their marriage today brings them much comfort and happiness."
