MLA Paul Frew's father in illegal cigarettes probe


A police investigation has been launched into allegations that the father of a DUP MLA was filmed selling smuggled cigarettes to an undercover reporter in his shop in Ballymena.

Confronted with video footage apparently showing him selling the eastern European cigarettes for £3.50 per box, Robert Frew – father of Paul – said: "I'm very sorry".

Paul Frew had no prior knowledge of his father's activities.

When contacted about his father, Paul Frew said it was right the allegations he was selling illegal, tax-free cigarettes, be probed by police. "I have always condemned all criminal behaviour regardless of its origin," he said. "No one should be above the law."
