MLA's fury at trail of destruction left by car

Reckless and dangerous driving led to a late-night trail of destruction in north Belfast over the weekend, a MLA has claimed.

At around 2.10am on Sunday a blue Ford Focus being driven up Twaddell Avenue crashed into four parked cars belonging to residents before becoming airborne and finishing up on its side.

Three males were seen to escape from the crashed car and to run away from the scene.

DUP Assembly member William Humphrey said: “This reckless high-speed driving has left a trail of destruction.

“Residents reported hearing a loud crash at around 2.10am.

“Some looked out to see the car still up in the air. It crashed down and ended up on its side.

“Three males were seen to climb up out of a side window and they ran off into Woodvale Gardens.

“One appeared to be clutching a large bottle of vodka,” the MLA added.

“Thankfully there were no pedestrians and no occupants in any of the parked cars, who could have received very serious injuries.

“Those responsible are a danger to themselves and to the public. They must be brought to book for their reckless and extremely dangerous actions.”
