MLAs pay tribute to Ballyedmond

The Assembly has united in tribute to Lord Ballyedmond who died in a helicopter crash in Norfolk last Thursday night.

MLAs paid their respects to the entrepreneur, his site manager Declan Small and two pilots.

Speaker William Hay said: "He was a true friend of this Assembly."

Opening the special half-hour session, SDLP South Down MLA Sean Rogers said: "This tragic accident has cut short the life of a man who still had a lot to give."

DUP Heath Minister Edwin Poots added: "He did whatever he could to sell Northern Ireland."

Catriona Ruane of Sinn Fein said he was a big supporter of the Narrow Water bridge project.

NI21's John McCallister, who is related to Lord Ballyedmond's wife, said: "He had a drive to build on peace and reconciliation and promote it wherever he could."
