Mother tells of her fears as shots are fired into living room

By Staff Reporter

Several shots were fired at a house in Belfast in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Up to six rounds were fired at the house on Norglen Drive in the Turf Lodge area. Police said that some of the bullets went through the living room window.

Four men who were in the house at the time of the shooting escaped injury. Occupant Saoirse Conlon and her toddler son weren't at home at the time.

Her brother and his three friends, who are all in their 20s, had left the living room moments before the gun attack to go upstairs to play a video game.

Ms Conlon said: "If me and my son had been there, what would have happened?"

She added that her brother has been traumatised by the incident.

The young mum said she doesn't know why her home was targeted.

"I don't know what it is they are looking off us or what they are going to do next. All I'm worried about is what is going to happen next.

"Is something really bad going to happen next? Not even gunshots - it could be my brother dead or something."

Her brother's friend Fearghal Donnelly said anyone could have been injured or killed as the blinds were closed and the gunmen could not have seen who they were shooting at.

He said: "I just heard six big bangs."

He added: "We actually freaked out and dived to the ground more or less."

Police have appealed for information.
