A motorcyclist has died after crashing on the Drumenny Road near Cookstown early yesterday morning.

The incident was reported to police at 3.30am.

The NI Ambulance Service said it had dispatched an emergency crew to the scene on the long country road, which runs between Ardboe and Ballinderry, but the biker's life could not be saved.

A PSNI spokesman told the Belfast Telegraph last night: "The collision, which was reported to us around 3.30am, occurred on the Drumenny Road and involved a motorcycle.

"I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or has dash-cam footage that could help police with their enquiries to contact police at Cookstown on the non-emergency number 101, quoting the reference 409 12/07/19."

Yesterday's crash victim was the second motorcyclist to die on the roads this year.

It brings to 26 the number of people who have died in road traffic collisions in Northern Ireland this year.
