Mourne Mountains hit with second gorse blaze in as many days

Fire fighters in Co Down are battling to extinguish a five-hectare gorse blaze in the Mourne Mountains.

The fire broke out on Thursday evening in the Slieve Commedagh Mountain area, with seven fire engines attending the scene.

Fire fighters are being helped at the scene by wildlife officers, who work within the PSNI, and Northern Ireland's Forest Service, part of the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs.

The blaze is the second such fire in the area in as many days.

On Wednesday a 10-acre gorse fire Drinnahilly Mountain close to Tollymore Forest park.

Eight fire appliances and 46 firefighters attended the scene to bring the fire under control.
