Mum's anger at 90 minute wait for luggage
A Belfast mother-of-two has hit out at Belfast International Airport after having to wait an hour and a half in the baggage reclaim area over the weekend.
The woman, who did not wish to be named, was hit by the lengthy luggage delay when she arrived back at the airport on Sunday afternoon following a family holiday in Dubrovnik.
She told the Belfast Telegraph yesterday: "There was a long queue at passport control and then we went into the small baggage reclaim area, where we waited and waited.
"It was full of people from four different flights which had arrived from Faro, Alicante and two from Dubrovnik and all at the same time.
"There must have been about 100 people and it felt like there was no air in such a small space.
"We had a two-year-old with us as we were waiting for our luggage and pram, but there were people with crying babies in their arms all that time waiting for prams too.
"There was no-one at the desk to ask about what was happening or to complain to. That made me more angry than anything else.
"At one point I rang the main airport switchboard number from the baggage area and told them what was happening.
"They said there was a backlog and that the luggage would come soon, but offered no apology.
"After landing at 2.30pm we finally got our luggage at 4.15pm.
"It was outrageous and the worst experience I have ever had at Belfast International Airport after 18 years living here in Northern Ireland," she added.
A spokesperson for Belfast International Airport said yesterday: "Baggage delivery is the responsibility of the airline and their ground handler.
"It is unacceptable for customers to have to wait an excessive amount of time for their luggage to arrive.
"Our operations team have raised this issue with the airlines and their ground handler to ensure prompt baggage delivery."
