Murder accused’s bail revoked
A 22-year-old man charged with murdering a father in front of his pregnant wife has been remanded in custody after being charged with breaching High Court bail conditions.
Thomas Stokes, from the Old Fort in the Strathfoyle area of Londonderry, was charged with stabbing to death John Mongan in Belfast in February 2008.
In court yesterday, Stokes’ bail was revoked by District Judge Liam McNally and he was remanded until July 26, after he was charged with causing criminal damage to his electronic tagging device on Monday.
A police officer told the judge that the defendant said heat and melting damage to the electronic tag “was the result of his constant use of steam rooms and saunas in local gyms”. “However, there was no burning of the skin of his leg,” he added.
