Murder in Turkey: Funerals for women in stab horror

By John Mulgrew

The funerals of the two Co Down women who were murdered while on holiday in Turkey last week are to take place today.

A service for Marion Graham (53), was due to take place at 11am in St Mary's Church in Newry and a Mass for Kathy Dinsmore (53), was scheduled for St Peter's Church in Warrenpoint at 2pm.

The two friends were stabbed to death in a wood close to the Turkish city of Izmir on August 18.

A Turkish waiter, Recep Cetin, who was the boyfriend of Marion Graham's daughter Shannon, has been accused of their murders.

Their bodies were flown back from Turkey on Wednesday.

Bishop of Dromore John McAreavey offered his respects privately to each family. Bishop McAreavey suffered his own loss earlier this year after the wife of his nephew, Michaela McAreavey, was murdered while on honeymoon in Mauritius.

Last weekend, prayers were said at churches here and in Turkey and for the two murder victims.
