Music club set up by family of Amy Reid aids cancer charities who gave her support

By Kirsten Elder

AER is a music club set up in Newtownards by Mark Reid, in memory of his late daughter Amy.

Mark started AER in January 2014 for two main reasons, to keep his daughters memory alive and to support CLIC Sargent and Friends of the Cancer Centre.

Amy Ellen Reid (AER) passed away after a long battle with cancer in February 2013.

Amy was a keen supporter of these two charities before she was diagnosed with the disease and also a music lover.

To date AER have raised nearly £30,000 for cancer, Mark said: “I ask bands to come along and support the club for free, and sometimes the members donate money at the end of the night…for me this is mind-blowing”

Mark said: “As a family we had two choices, to either be sad, sit and grieve, or to stand up and help the fight against cancer”.

Bands which have supported the club to date are Cup O’Joe, Mandy and Graham Bingham, The Emerald Armanda and Mike Donaghy to name a few.

Emma McGady, Amy’s sister said: “I just want to give back what I can to the charities that reached out to me, my family and Amy when we most needed them”.

AER music club is held on the last Thursday in every month, the next event is happening on Thursday 27 November, in Molly Brown’s Newtownards.
