N’abbey park wardens bring sport equipment to work
Just months after the park warden service was introduced in Newtownabbey there is a novel new dimension to the service.
The wardens will be touring Newtownabbey’s parks with some extra accessories — sports equipment to lend out to park users. They will be giving young and old the opportunity to use the park to its full potential.
The wardens, who have all successfully completed foundation courses in football and rugby, will be loaning out equipment and setting up small sided games on request. In addition they will also have information on sports courses and summer programmes throughout the borough.
Commenting on the new initiative the Mayor, Alderman Paula Bradley, said: “We are hoping that this new initiative will help the park wardens to keep in touch with those using the park and encourage more people to take up the sport and play opportunities available to them.
“We hope by publicising this initiative those who might engage in anti-social behaviour in our parks might be encouraged to participate in sport and play activities there instead.
“The park wardens are enthusiastic about the scheme and they will be a valuable asset to young and old in the parks over the summer.”
