Name of prisoner who died at Maghaberry revealed at court hearing
A young prisoner from Co Down who died in custody earlier this week has been named in court.
Daniel McConville (22), from Monbrief Walk in Lurgan, had been due to appear before Craigavon Magistrates Court by video-link yesterday morning.
But when the defendant's case was called, a solicitor informed the judge that his client had died in Maghaberry Prison the day before.
Mr McConville, who previously resided at an address on Albert Street, was facing charges of unlawful possession of cannabis resin.
The Northern Ireland Prison Service announced the death of a male in custody on Thursday and said his next of kin had been informed.
The PSNI, Coroner and Prisoner Ombudsman have also been informed, in line with standard procedure.
