A new pedestrian and cycle bridge connecting the Comber Greenway and Dundonald Leisure Park has been opened.

It means residents and visitors have better access to local facilities including the Ice Bowl, Omniplex, restaurants and caravan park.

The project was jointly funded by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council and the Department for Infrastructure (DfI).

James Tinsley, chairman of the council's leisure and community development committee, opened the new bridge.

He said: "This bridge will be lit at night, offering residents and visitors to the area access to leisure and hospitality venues, which will help benefit the local night time economy."

Andrew Grieve, head of the DfI's walking and cycling unit, added: "This is a great example of what can be achieved when government agencies work together."
