New city art sculptures ‘to promote integration’

Three new pieces of public art designed to promote integration in Belfast are to be unveiled later this month.

The art projects are part of an educational project by Belfast City Council called Creative Legacies.

The first, ‘Moving Forward’, will be unveiled next Wednesday at Ballymacarrett Recreation Centre in Connswater Street. This will be the first public piece of art installed in the new £32m Connswater Community Greenway regeneration project.

It was created by artist Daniela Balmaverde with the help of youngsters from The Klub at Dee Street community centre.

The second piece is a new sculpture sited at the gateway to the Shankill, on the corner of Brown’s Square. The sculpture will be unveiled next Friday.

The final piece, ‘My New Lodge’, was created by users of North Queen Street Community Centre with artist Eleanor Wheeler. It will be unveiled on June 22 at North Street Community Centre.
