New kitchens for local residents

By Michael McCready

Newtownabbey residents are celebrating after getting brand new kitchens thanks to a £215,000 scheme.

Sixty one Housing Executive tenants in Rathcoole benefited from the Housing Executive investment.

District manager Sharon Crooks described the £215,000 scheme as further progress for the housing area.

Ms Crooks commented: “This scheme is the second contract to replace kitchens in Rathcoole in the current financial year, with over 100 tenants now enjoying the benefits of more modern kitchen facilities.

“While the extensive work programmes delivered in Rathcoole, through the estate strategy, over the past 20 years have dramatically transformed housing conditions and the housing environment in Rathcoole, as this strategy comes to an end it is important that we continue to show faith to this community.

“These kitchen contracts are just one example of our ongoing commitment to Rathcoole residents.

“People in the estate are rightly proud of what has been achieved in the past 20 years, by and large through community, voluntary and statutory sectors working in partnership towards a common goal.

“The result — good quality housing and other services in an attractive, more settled environment where people choose and seek to live, an estate which has also seen private sector investment — all optimistic signs for the 2010’s and beyond.

“In the Housing Executive we will continue to play our part in the Rathcoole community, providing housing services and supporting local people to build on the achievements of the past two decades,” she added.
