New Lodge attack: Pipe bomb explodes outside house in north Belfast

A pipe bomb has exploded outside a house in the New Lodge area of north Belfast.

It's believed the device was thrown at a property in Sheridan Street sometime overnight however the incident was not reported to police until 9.45am this morning.

Damage was caused to a window frame. The occupants who were at home at the time were not injured.

A number of nearby homes were evacuated while the remnants of the device were made safe and recovered for examination.

Detective Inspector Nigel Snoddy appealed for anyone with information to contact detectives from Reactive & Organised Crime at Musgrave Police Station by calling 101.

There is no further information at this stage.
