New mums and tots group

PUP leader Brian Ervine and Victoria district representative Robert McCartney recently officially launched the new mother and toddler group in Inverary Community Centre in east Belfast.

The group was started by local mothers Leigh Wilson and Claire Bannatyne who felt the Sydenham area was lacking a viable pre-class facility.

The group operates in Inverary Community Centre every Monday morning from 10.00am to 11.30am and already has almost 25 children using the centre on a weekly basis.

Mr Ervine, a former teacher at Orangefield High School, said “These are the formative years when ideas and attitudes are instilled in our young children and it's crucial for further educational attainment that kids begin learning as soon as possible.

“I would encourage any parents in the Sydenham area to make the most of this new facility and call for parents and mothers in other areas of east Belfast to set about setting up their own pre-school classes if they feel their district is lacking existing support for mothers and toddlers.”
