New parking measures introduced on busy Belfast road at rush hour

New parking enforcement measures come into effect on Belfast's Antrim Road.

From Monday vehicles will be banned from parking on the Belfast-bound side of the road from the M2 bridge at Glengormley, near the Bellevue Bar, all the way to the Cliftonville Road during the morning rush from 8am to 9.30am and on the country-bound lane between 4.30pm and 6pm.

Given similar arrangements are in place from the Cliftonville Road on into Belfast, it means the entire road from Glengormley is off-limits for parking during the busy periods.

The Department of Infrastructure said the changes were being made following talks with the community and businesses in the area. They are a change to total restriction on parking along the road.

It said the measure will help improve traffic flow during busy times and "benefit local businesses by providing much needed parking and loading spaces, whilst not significantly impacting upon commuter journey times or road safety."
